Implementation checklist
Do these steps in order. They take a company from a clean install to processed tax rates and a first automatic tax area code.
1 · Prepare the environment
- Install TaxRateCentral. See Installation.
- Turn on Allow HttpClient Requests for the extension.
- Assign the permission sets.
2 · Configure the setup card
- Open the TaxRateCentral Setup Card.
- In a sandbox, choose Yes or No for the demo data.
- Fill in Tax Account (Sales), Tax Account (Purchases), and Reverse Charge (Purchases).
- Select the Tax Type.
- Turn on the update options that you want to use.
- Enter the EndPoint URL and your API Key. See Service connection.
- Turn on Enabled.
3 · Configure the tax groups
- Open the Tax Groups page.
- Make sure that at least one tax group exists.
- Turn on Taxable for each tax group that is taxable in most states.
- Add a state override on the Tax Group States page where a state has a different rule.
4 · Load the states and post codes
- Open the States page.
- Choose Load States, or enter the state codes manually.
- Turn on Tax Collected for each state where you collect sales tax.
- Open the Post Codes page.
- Choose Load Zip Codes, or enter the post codes manually.
5 · Process the rates
- Open the States page.
- Choose Process All.
- Open the Tax Areas list and make sure that the app created the tax areas.
6 · Schedule the monthly update
- Open the job queue entry for TaxRateCentral.
- Make sure that the schedule is correct.
- Set the status to Ready.
7 · Update the existing records
The app assigns a tax area code when a post code changes. Existing customers, ship-to addresses, and open documents keep their old tax area codes.
- Open each existing customer, ship-to address, or open document.
- On a customer or ship-to address, select the post code with the lookup on Post Code.
- On a document, enter a different Ship-to Post Code, and then enter the correct one.
- Make sure that the assigned Tax Area Code is correct.
See Tax area assignment.
8 · Test a first assignment
- Make sure that Update on Customer Event is on.
- Create a customer.
- Enter a post code and a city that you processed in step 5.
- Make sure that the app filled in the Tax Area Code.
TaxRateCentral is now ready to use.
